Today, Rep. Liz Cheney slammed her Democratic women colleagues who gave a standing ovation for themselves, but decided to stay silent during many other important moments.
Liz Cheney recently posted on Twitter and pointed out that while the lawmakers cheered loudly for the largest number of women in Congress, they refused to applaud and stayed silent during mentions of the U.S. law enforcement and low unemployment.
“Things my Democrat women colleagues wouldn’t clap for at #StateOfTheUnion2019 tonight: America, freedom, free enterprise, law enforcement heroes, record low unemployment for women & minorities, the right of babies to live. Things they did clap for: themselves,” Cheney tweeted.
During his State Of The Union address, President Donald Trump pointed out the employment rates for women and the increased diversity of Congress.
“No one has benefited more from our thriving economy than women, who have filled 58 percent of the newly created jobs last year,” said President Trump.
This got applause from the women siting in Congress, which later erupted into cheers after the President’s following statement.
“You weren’t supposed to do that,” said the President. “Don’t sit yet, you’re going to like this. Exactly one century since after Congress passed the constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote, we also have more women serving in Congress than at any time before.”
Many others also pointed out the strange lack of applause for bipartisan issues such as the economy and minority unemployment.
Here are some of the post from Twitter :
During these hard times, with little unity in the Congress, it is very important for lawmakers to show that they are willing to cheer for issues important for everyone in the United States.
During the address, the Democrats lost an important opportunity to do just that.
All this reminded us of the Bible, where it says that in the last days people will be lovers of self and think only they are right, it also says that people will think wrong is right and right is wrong.
Common people also have a saying on this, What you stand and cheer for sets your priorities, so, now everyone who watched the SOTU knows what the Democratic women in Congress have for their priority – Themselves!
