Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Shuts Down Rep. Omar With a Lesson On U.S. Constitution After She Attacked Refugee Policy

Texas Governor Greg Abbott shut down Rep. Ilhan Omar and gave her a brutal lesson in US history during the process.

Rep. Omar was furious over Governor Abbott’s decision to not allow any more refugees to settle in Texas. Omar said: “With silent lips. ‘Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.’”

”These are the words that welcomed me and millions of refugees. I still believe in those values. We shall overcome,” she continued.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wasn’t having it and didn’t wait long to shot back.

“The values America needs you to believe in are the: U.S. Constitution & the Declaration of Independence,” posted Governor Abbott.

NPR reported that on Friday Gov. Greg Abbott announced that his state will not accept new refugees this year, making Texas the first state to reject resettlements under a new rule from President Trump.

Back in September President Trump signed an executive order, saying that states and municipalities must give written consent before refugees can be resettled.

“Texas has carried more than its share in assisting the refugee resettlement process,” Abbott, a Republican, said in a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday.

“Since FY2010, more refugees have been received in Texas than in any other state. In fact, over that decade, roughly 10% of all refugees resettled in the United States have been placed in Texas,” Gov. Abbott noted.

He added, “Texas has been left by Congress to deal with disproportionate migration issues resulting from a broken federal immigration system.”

He stated that approximately 100,000 immigrants were apprehended crossing the state’s southern border in May of last year. And, in the 2018 fiscal year, he said, apprehensions included people from China, Iran, Kenya, Russia and Tonga.
