Pelosi Claims She Would’ve Held “Disrespectful” Lewandowski In Contempt On The Spot

After watching Corey Lewandowski deliver a combative and highly entertaining testimony during Trump impeachment hearing, Nancy Pelosi reportedly became incensed according to the Washington Post.

The Dems grilled Lewandowski before the House Judiciary Committee in a desperate attempt to nail President Trump on debunked Russian collusion and/or obstruction allegations.

From the beginning of Lewandowski’s testimony, it was clear he wasn’t having it. The former Trump aide essentially stonewalled Jerry Nadler’s inquisition and delivered humiliating blows to Dems who proceeded him.

“I would have held him in contempt right then and there,” Nancy Pelosi told a group of lawmakers on Wednesday the Post reported.

Several lawmakers believe Pelosi’s comments were a direct slam to fellow Democrat Nadler, who was criticized for going too easy on Lewandowski and losing control of the hearing.

Pelosi spokeswoman Ashely Ettienne confirmed the discussion to the Post but walked back the original statement slightly, saying “Speaker Pelosi agreed that his behavior was beyond the pale and contemptible,” Ettienne said. “The Speaker went on to say that he could have been held in contempt right then and there.”

“Her comments were a critique of the witness’ behavior, not the handling of these hearings,” she said.

Regardless, many House members believe Nancy Pelosi’s remarks were a not-so-subtle dig at Jerry Nadler since the two have been at odds about impeaching President Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, Rep. Anthony Brindisi was one of several “moderate” Democrats who’ve recently voiced concerns about impeachment proceedings against Trump directly to Pelosi.

“It’s very frustrating for me — someone coming from a district that was one of the districts that helped get us into the majority — having so much focus on things like impeachment or other issues that are divisive,” Brindisi said in an interview. “We should be focusing on kitchen table issues.”

Democrats, especially in red states, are rightly concerned that full-on impeachment procedures will suck the life out of their campaigns, and they’re right to be concerned.
