Actress Patricia Arquette Says Trump & Pompeo Are Trying To Protect Themselves From The International Criminal Court

Responding to a tweet from Hina Shamsi, actress Patricia Arquette suggested that President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo may be taking action to “set themselves up to protect themselves from International Crimes?”

Hina Shamsi had responded to a BBC story “International Criminal Court officials sanctioned by US” and wrote “This is a disgraceful and dangerous action, displaying a gross contempt for human rights and people working to uphold them.”

An authoritarian tactic that further insults war crimes victims and serves only authoritarian regimes,” she added.

BBC reported that the US has imposed sanctions on senior officials in the International Criminal Court, including chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused the court of “illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction”.

The ICC, based in Hague, is currently investigating whether US forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan.

The US has criticised the court since its foundation and is one of a dozen states which have not signed up.

Speaking of the ICC, Pompeo told reporters at a State Department news conference “We will not tolerate its illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction.”
