Former San Francisco 49ers star Jerry Rice praised President Donald Trump for pardoning Edward DeBartolo Jr., the team’s former owner.
“I take my hat off to Donald Trump for what he did,” Jerry Rice said outside the White House.
“Today is a great day for him. I’m glad to be here and be a part of that. And, you know, it’s just something I’ll never forget,” Rice said.
“You know, this man, he has done so much in the community. He has done so much in NFL football,” the former San Francisco 49ers player added.
DeBartolo was convicted in a gambling fraud scandal involving Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards. In 1998, he pleaded guilty.
DeBartolo ceded control of the team in 2000.
President Trump has pardoned or shortened the sentences of about a dozen convicted felons during his first three years in the oval office.
