Former Arkansas Governor and Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee went after CNN analyst and former adviser to former President Barack Obama David Axelrod for the latter’s recent comments effectively calling his daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a liar.
Mike Huckabee appeared on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Friday and was asked for his thoughts regarding Axelrod’s recent comments where he suggested that his daughter was “the fire marshall to a pyromaniac” during her tenure as President Trump’s press secretary.
“If you are the spokesperson for a habitual liar, it’s like being the fire marshall for a pyromaniac,” said Axelrod. “You know, it’s not going to end well for you.”
Axelrod continued on and suggest that Sarah Sanders was a liar herself, claiming that the WH Press Secretary chose her “fidelity to Trump” over that of the “truth” and that her “legacy” was built around “defending the indefensible.”
Mike Huckabee — in true southern gentleman style — fired back at Axelrod for his comments, saying that the CNN analyst was “a better person than that” and that “he knows better.”
The former governor didn’t forget to point out that the people who “don’t like” his daughter feel that way because they “don’t like Donald Trump.”
“Well, the truth is: people that don’t like Donald Trump don’t like my daughter. And it’s not that they don’t like her —because most of them don’t even know her — they just don’t like President Trump. […] I’m a little surprised that this came out of Axelrod. He’s a better person than that. He knows better. And I’m really shocked and surprised that he would go there to that degree.” He said.
Huckabee’s comments came the same week as his daughter, Sarah Sanders, announced her resignation as press secretary to the President so that she could spend more time with her children.
As previosley reported, Sarah Sanders tearfully reflected on her time at the White House during her announcement, proclaiming that she “loved every minute” of her job and that her time there as “the opportunity of a lifetime.”
