House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler interviewed former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks but during their conversation didn’t refrain from calling her by an “appalling” name.
Hicks was the first person from President Trump’s close circle to appear before the committee on Wednesday to testify about special counsel Mueller’s Russia investigation into whether there was obstruction of justice during Trump’s 2016 campaign.
During the closed-door congressional hearing, Chairman Jerry Nadler didn’t refrain from calling Hicks “Ms. Lewandowski,” referring her by the name three times — the repeated slips are likely to come from a rumor of an affair between Hicks and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during the 2016 campaign.
“Yeah. Ms. Lewandowski, I think, in reading this — ” Jerry Nadler said during the time, resulting in Hicks cutting him off, “My name is Ms. Hicks.”
“I’m sorry, Ms. Hicks,” Chairman Jerry Nadler responded. “I’m preoccupied.”
California Republican Devin Nunes stated that sources inside the deposition called the line of questioning from Democrats creepy.
“My sources that were inside and did the interviewing said it was quite embarrassing to watch the Democratic congressmen essentially ask Hope Hicks about her love life,” Nunes said. “I think that’s very bizarre to have a bunch of old, pervy congressmen asking somebody who has no new information about her love life. I think the American people would be ashamed if they knew what actually happened in that room.”
While the mainstream media was questioning whether the comments had been intentional, Jerry Nadler’s slip-ups resulted in social media outrage where users were tearing into him for the error.
Nadler’s comments managed to catch Hicks of guard, but only served as more political theater by the Democrats. Maybe now everyone is on the same page that members of congress should be acting more seriously.
