Ruth Bader Ginsburg Shuts Down Ocasio-Cortez’s Dream Of Abolishing The Electoral College

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a dream to remake the United States by abolishing the electoral college. It’s a dream shared by many on the left, unhappy that in a certain period the electoral college favors Republican candidates.

But not every election, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez forgets, as she rushes head-on into things she knows little about. But that is what the left does when they lose – they make excuses.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg decided to shoot down Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s dream with a cold hard reality. “It’s largely a dream because our Constitution is … hard to amend,” Ginsburg said. “I know that from experience.”

“But that would require a constitutional amendment, and amending our Constitution is powerfully hard to do.” Ginsburg added, and urged Americans to focus instead on more realistic changes.

The Hill reported that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez made her argument this Monday on Instagram that includes her driving along a deserted highway and quipping, “many votes here, as you can see.”

“Very efficient way to choose leadership of the country. I mean I can’t think of any other way, can you,” Rep. Ocasio- Cortez says, before going on to cite a report from New York Magazine that argues the defenses of the system that determines the winner of presidential elections are flawed.

The freshman lawmaker also claimed that the Electoral College is just a “scam” that has a “racial injustice breakdown” undermining the votes of colored people.

“Due to severe racial disparities in certain states, the Electoral College effectively weighs white voters over voters of color, as apposed to a ‘one person, one vote’ system where all our votes are counted equally,” AOC says, before pushing back against the argument that eliminating the Electoral College would give big states too much power.

“Could you image if we had this kind democracy-altering ‘fairness’ provision for literally any other group?” she asks. “If we weighed, for example, black and indigenous voters more because of unfairness?”

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also asserts that plenty of Republicans live in Democratic-leaning states, saying that their votes would count equally in a popular vote.

“Facts are facts America,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez concludes. “The Electoral College has to go.”
