Sen. Ted Cruz shut down pesky and quite rude CNN White House reporter Brian Karem.
Sen. Cruz accused the man, who was once tossed from the White House rose garden for getting into it with Sebastian Gorka, of playing a “nasty Washington game” after he took a cheap shot at Ted’s young children.
The Republican Texa Senator silenced him quickly and then turned to blast the Bidens:
“We’ve just seen two hours of evidence. And at a minimum, it was not only reasonable and justified, but the President, I think, had an obligation to investigate corruption that potentially extended to the very highest levels of the government.”
The Hill also reported that the interaction occurred on Monday during a break in the impeachment trial. That day, President Trump’s defense team argued that the Ukrainian energy company Burisma had hired Hunter Biden because his father was vice president.
Karem, who is the senior White House reporter for Playboy, responded to a point Sen. Cruz made by stating that the President Trump’s defense team had not pointed to any crimes committed by Biden as they attacked his reputation and image.
“But senator, none of the president’s attorneys mentioned one single possible crime,” Karem said. “Basically, what they said is [Hunter Biden] got a job, his dad was vice president. I mean, if that’s a crime, shouldn’t half of your children be in prison?”
“My children are nine and 11,” Cruz replied to laughs from lawmakers and some reporters.
“I’m sorry you want to throw a nine-year-old in prison. At this point, my third grader plays basketball and softball at her school, so stop playing the nasty Washington game!”
“That’s not a nasty Washington game,” Karem responded.
“Attacking a nine-year-old?” Sen. Ted Cruz shot back as he moved on.
