This Saturday, President Trump blasted Rep. Elijah Cummings with some harsh words. The president didn’t held back as he tweeted that Cummings’ Maryland district is “the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States.”
The President also blasted Rep. Cummings as a “brutal bully” and called for an investigation into how government funds are being spent in the congressman’s district.
“Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” the president tweeted.
“His district is considered the Worst in the USA as proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming[s’] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could clean up this very dangerous & filthy mess.” Trump continued.
President Trump then added, “Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!”
House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings has long been a vocal critic of President Trump and the president’s recent attacks follow the congressman blasting conditions at immigrant detention centers.
The congressman went so far in his criticisms of immigrant detention facility conditions that he said U.S.-run facilities on the border with Mexico equate to “government-sponsored child abuse.”
“We have seen cases where the administration has deported parents without their children and still, to this day, have not reunited those families,” he said. “This is government-sponsored child abuse … on a grand scale.”
Rep. Cummings also went after acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan last week during a House hearing on the border crisis.
“You feel like you’re doing a great job, right?” Cummings asked of McAleenan. “What does that mean? What does that mean? When a child is sitting in their own feces, can’t take a shower?”
He added, “Come on man. What’s that about? None of us would have our children in that position. They are human beings.”
President Trump’s tweets about Rep. Cummings also follow the House Oversight and Reform Committee authorizing Cummings to subpoena for records from the White House related to aides using allegedly personal emails for official business.
“There are serious questions about this White House’s use of personal email and text accounts. We must issue these subpoenas to get our answers,” Cummings announced about the subpoena this week.
