VIDEO: Hero Cop Rescues Toddler Running Alone On Busy Highway

A police officer from Naperville, Illinois was driving along the busy highway when he saw a 1-year-old boy running alone on the street.

The police officer immediately pulled over and gave those of us who honor police another reason for doing so.

Last month, Sgt. Anthony Mannino, a police officer from Naperville, was driving his police vehicle in the right lane on Route 59 when he saw a toddler running south in the right lane, just a feet away from the busy center lane.

Officer Mannino’s dash-cam caught a speeding truck just missing the child as the child seemingly veered toward the center lane.

The dashcam footage shows Officer Mannino stopping in the right lane to block cars from going towards the child, then jumping out of his car and shouting at the child to stop and “come here.”

The frightened little boy, instead, runs away, so Officer Mannino sprints after him, and finally catches him, telling him, “You’re okay; you’re okay,” as he nabs him.

Last week, Sergeant Anthony Mannino was awarded the department’s Life Saving Award, and we all saw that he deserved it.

The Naperville Police Department posted a message on Facebook explaining the event:

Last month, this youngster escaped his mother’s watchful eye, left his house and was found by Sgt. Anthony Mannino running on Route 59! Luckily, no one was hurt, and we attribute that to Sgt. Mannino’s observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad car and himself between the child and traffic. On June 7, Sgt. Mannino was presented the department’s Life Saving Award. Well done, Sergeant.

The little runner was eventually reunited with his mother thanks to one police officer.

You can watch the video from Sgt. Anthony Mannino’s dash-cam on the link below:

Route 59 is a very busy highway. Cars are speeding fast and situations like these could get tragic really fast.

The cars were driving so fast that no one saw the small boy running beside them. One could only hope that none of the passing cars stopped to help because the didn’t even saw the child.

Luckily, Sgt. Anthony Mannino was driving by, and after he saw the boy, immediately reacted to the situation.

God bless this Police Officer a hundred times over for saving this child. The chances that he could got hit by a car were disturbing. The little boy is so lucky he was saved by the police officer.
