President Trump said that that during the Democratic National Convention, Democrats left the word “God” out of the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
“The Democrats took the word GOD out of the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democrat National Convention,” he said on Saturday.
“At first I thought they made a mistake, but it wasn’t. It was done on purpose. Remember Evangelical Christians, and ALL, this is where they are coming from-it’s done. Vote Nov 3!”
Trump was quickly condemned for his statement after videos of the convention’s recitations of the pledge made their way around social media.
During each of the four nights of the convention, the Pledge of Allegiance was stated in full, including the word “God.”
However, the main convention events weren’t the only meetings held at the DNC this week. Smaller meetings were held for individual caucuses.
In at least two instances, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited at a caucus meeting without the word “God.” Those included the Muslim caucus meeting and the LGBTQ caucus meeting.
“At the #DemocraticNationalConvention , LGBT Caucus purposely leaves out the words, “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Watch. This now makes twice that two key constituencies of the Democratic Party have done this. See my earlier tweet about DNC Muslim Caucus,” David Brody posted.
“Watch delegate AJ Durrani skip it. Featured speakers at the event were @BernieSanders @RashidaTlaib & @TomPerez @realDonaldTrump,” he added.
The Democrats concluded their virtual convention on Thursday as former Vice President Joe Biden accepted his party’s nomination. Republicans will host their own virtual convention this coming week.
