President Trump slammed CNN’s Jim Acosta today as he was taking questions after announcing a national emergency at the United States – Mexico border.
The President fired back at Acosta telling him to ask those who have lost many loved ones to illegal immigrant crime whether or not the southern border crisis is real.
The tense moment begun when CNN’s Acosta pointed to several statistics on border crossings and crime rates among illegal immigrants as he began to suggest that President Trump was just blowing the problem out of proportion.
“What do you say to your critics who say you are creating a national emergency?” asked Acosta after some prompting to hurry up from the President.
“Ask the Angel Moms,” President Trump shot back, pointing to those he honored earlier in his speech. “What do you think? Do you think I’m creating something? Ask these incredible women who lost their daughters and their sons.”
Then the President further reamed Jim Acosta, saying, “Your question is a very political question, you have an agenda, you’re CNN, you’re fake news, the numbers that you gave are wrong.”
The back-and-forth came after President Trump shared his “great respect” for angel families and honored them few moments before during his announcement.
President Donald Trump gave a shout out to several “angel mom’s” who carried photos of the children they lost.
“I want to thank in particular the Angel moms and dads for being here. Thank you very much. We have great respect for you. Our real country, the people that really love our country, they love you. So I just want you to know that. I know how hard you fight and I know how hard a fight you’re having.”
On Friday, President Trump announced his plans to declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and signed a spending deal to keep the federal government open just before the deadline expired in hopes of allocating $8 billion in federal funds to build the border wall.
