HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson appeared on Fox News on Tucker Carlson’s show and shut down the attacks lobbed at him by the Washington Post and other left-wing media because he believes there are no more than two genders.
Specifically, Dr. Carson, a world-renowned brain surgeon, underscored that he has no issues with transgender individuals, but noted that you can’t “change” your gender simply by saying you are a woman if you are biologically born a male.
Host Tucker Carlson said: “I want to ask you about how you are responding to the ‘Washington Post’ attacks on you this morning. You are an eminent physician, a world-famous physician. And here you have had the local newspaper lecturing you about science. I wonder if you could clarify: If someone decides to change his or her gender, does that mean that that person’s gender automatically changes? In other words, if I say I am a woman, am I?”
Dr. Carson replied: “Obviously it doesn’t. If I wake up tomorrow and I ‘feel like’ I’m Chinese, it doesn’t necessarily make me Chinese. There are biological and scientific issues that have to be dealt with [when you’re transgender]. But regardless of that, I have always said we are supposed to serve all the people. And if somebody wants to be transgender, that’s fine. We try to serve them as well.”
He added: “I have offered transgender groups an opportunity to let me know what their solution would be so that everybody’s rights are observed. I haven’t heard one peep [from them].”
Dr. Carson was attacked by the Washington Post for allegedly expressing concern about “big, hairy men” trying to enter women’s homeless shelters. Dr. Carson supposedly made the comments during an internal meeting at a San Francisco HUD office this week.
Dr. Carson is apparently worried than men might try to camouflage themselves as transgender women to enter women’s shelters, potentially leading to rapes or other assaults.
Yet, The Washington Post and the political Left immediately attacked Dr. Carson as transphobic.
Host Tucker asked: “What’s that like being dismissed as a bigot? How would you respond to that?”
Dr. Carson replied: “You know, it’s the same as the president being called a ‘racist’ for virtually anything he does or doesn’t do. They [the left-wing media] have already made up their mind that I hate transgender people, which is completely untrue.”
“The bible tells us that we have to love everybody and that Jesus died for everybody. But it also tells you that if you stick to biblical principles, you will be persecuted. So I am not surprised. But it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t always continue to try to do what is right, and let the chips fall where they may,” he added.
