DACA-Registered Illegal Alien Drunk Driver Awarded $19K After Being “Illegally Detained By Police For ICE Agents”

In a Fox & Friends segment that highlighted a member of Congress encouraging people to tip lawbreakers off when ICE agents are around, a troubling case of an illegal alien being awarded thousands of dollars came up.

In the case mentioned, Edgar Torres Gutierrez, an illegal alien registered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, was given nearly $19,000 from the city of Laguna Beach in a settlement after being arrested in 2018 for driving under the influence, KABC reported.

The ACLU of Southern California filed a lawsuit on Gutierrez’s behalf, claiming he was illegally held by police for ICE agents.

“I acknowledge that and I am at fault for that and I am dealing with the consequences of that,” Gutierrez said of the charges. “What isn’t correct is for police to be working with ICE to deport a DACA recipient.”

Former acting ICE director, now a Fox News contributor, Tom Homan, stressed the importance of the 2020 election in speaking on Gutierrez’s windfall at taxpayers’ expense.

“Entering the country, drives drunk — which isn’t probably the first time, it’s the first time he’s been caught doing it — endangers the community, and he’s being rewarded with taxpayer money,” Homan said. “This is why 2020’s important. We’re in a fight for our country, and we need to make sure President Trump stays in office and keeps enforcing the law.”

The aforementioned member of Congress was Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, who was campaigning in Iowa for fellow democrat Sen. Bernie Sanders. In an effort to demonize ICE, the freshman lawmaker encouraged people to tip off those in violation of the law if they see ICE agents in the area.

“Organizing is about tipping people off if you start to see that ICE and CBP are in communities, to try to keep people safe,” the radical Democrat said. “I’m not here to reform some of these systems, when we talk about immigration. I’m here because Sen. Sanders has actually committed to break up ICE and CBP. That’s why I’m here.”

As Rep. Ocasio-Cortez talked about doing away with the agency tasked with enforcing our immigration laws, a “disgusted” Homan reminded viewers of what ICE does.

“Last year they arrested 127,000 criminals,” he explained. “Think about it for a minute, 2000 of those were for homicide, 12,000 of those were rapes, 45,000 assaults. ICE is keeping the community safe.”

“First of all, it’s an incredibly stupid statement she made, which doesn’t surprise me because she is about as far from smart as anybody could possibly be,” Homan opined. “But what she said is dangerous — these men and women put their lives on the line every day to arrest criminals off the streets, especially in New York.”

“It’s a dangerous statement. It’s idiotic,” he added. “And I just can’t believe she can stand up on stage and make a statement like that and not have any repercussions from the House ethics committee.”

Referencing the Democrat’s partisan impeachment of President Trump, Homan dismissed their claim that the president is obstructing Congress, saying that the Democrat-controlled House has been obstructing this president from “day one.”

Homan also said that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s comments, which he said were “disgusting,” are obstruction of justice.

Asked why ICE has become such a target of the left, Homan pointed to President Trump.

“Because they’re enforcing the law,” he said. “President Trump, who in my opinion is the greatest president I ever worked for, he believes law enforcement should enforce the law. He believes you don’t reward lawbreakers… so they’re vilifying the men and women of ICE for simply doing their jobs.”
