Mitch McConnell Slams Nike & Kaepernick With His Fourth Of July Photo

This week, everyone has been talkng about Nike’s decision to pull their brand new shoe design featuring the Betsy Ross flag because former quarterback Colin Kaepernick objected to its image.

Nike asked the stores to return their product after they recieved a complaint from Kaepernick, who claimed that he and other’s found the shoe offensive.

At least two 2020 Democrat candidates agreed with Nike’s decision to pull the sneakers.

Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro claimed that he was “glad to see” Nike remove the shoes, comparing the “painful” symbol to the Confederate flag.

Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke also approved of Nike’s decision, noting that “white nationalist groups” have “appropriated” the Betsy Ross flag.

But today, on Independence Day, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has a message of his own to share.

The Daily Caller reported that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeted a Fourth of July photo that appeared to take direct aim at Nike and former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“Happy Fourth of July!” Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell tweeted, sharing a photo of the original Betsy Ross design of the American flag.

Earlier in the week, McConnell also responded to Nike’s decision, saying that if Nike went ahead with production anyway — or if another company took up a similar design — he would “make the first order.”

Since Nike recalled the sneakers, a few pairs have made it to online auction sites. One such e-Bay listing was up to $8,800 by the time of publication. It seems like people DO wanna wear the flag.
